Sol Mayoff (Abr) Peacefully, at home, in his ninety-fifth year, on Sunday, November 9, 2014. Beloved husband of the late Zelda. Most loving father and father-in-law of Donna (Roman), Robert and the late Wendy, Doug and Cynthia, Richard, and Bonnie. Cherished grandfather of Ricky, David; Chelsea, Dylan, and Harley; Ashley; Cory, Daryl, and Oliver; and the late Lori. Proud great-grandfather of Emily, Olivia, Andrew, Montana, Stone and Jade. Predeceased by his siblings Molly, Fritzie, Doris, Meyer, Moe, and Sam; brother-in-law of Sidney Schwartz (Marilyn). Sol will be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Rubin Becker, and Dr. John Backler, and to his devoted caregivers Kerry, Ninfa, Zinny, Franklin, and Julius. Funeral service was on Tuesday, November 11 at 11:00 a.m. Burial at the Chevra Kadisha B’nai Jacob Congregation Section, Kehal Israel Cemetery.  Donations in his memory may be made to the Lori Black Community Centre, c/o the Miriam Home Foundation, (514) 345-1300.

Melodie Gula (Abr)

­ Passed away suddenly but peacefully on July 3, 2013 at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. Beloved wife of Dan (abr), Daughter to Phyllis and Al Bott, Daughter-in-Law to Barbara Berman (abr), Sister-in-Law to Barry Gula (abr) and Noel Houtteman, Brother to Ron Boose and Greg Jakma, Aunt to the greatest nieces and nephews in the world and missed by all others who knew her. Her rough exterior was her shield hiding the warm, caring person her true friends and family knew. Her last act of unselfishness was to give life through organ donation to a young man who had little time to left to live. As per her request there was no service but donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Trillium Gift of Life Network, and/or the Canadian Cancer Society. She will be truly missed.

Jack Bottler (Soc)

Jack Bottler (Soc) – Passed away peacefully on December 3, 2011 in St. Thomas, Ontario. Beloved husband of Helen. Loving brother to Beatrice (late Syd) Solomons and to his late siblings Bessie Bottler, Sarah (Abe) Bronstein and Saul (Sarah) Bottler. Dutiful son of the late Martin and Sonia Bottler. Jack was loved and adored by his many nieces and nephews. He was quiet, hard-working, kind and a generous supporter of the greater communities of St. Thomas and Toronto. He will be missed very much. Graveside service was held on Monday, December 5th in St. Thomas. Shiva was observed in Toronto. Donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Walter Berman (Abr)- Walter passed away peacefully on Friday, November 18, 2011 at the age of 84. Beloved husband of Barbara Mayoff Berman, loving stepfather of Dan and Melodie Gula, Barry Gula and Noel Houtteman and cherished uncle to his many nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral took place at Bathurst Lawn Cemetery, Court Topaz section, on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Shiva was held in Toronto. Donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Monica [Nikki] Sankey (nee Nash) (Abr) – It is with great sadness to announce that our sweet Nikki Sankey, passed away Monday, June 20, 2011 in Comox, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, after a courageous battle with cancer.  She was just 41 years old. She was the beloved soul mate of her husband Greg and loving mother of her dear daughters Chiara and Sage, and she will be greatly missed by them. She will be dearly missed by the Nash family: her mother Cheryl; her father and his wife Allan and Caryn; and her sister & brother-in-law Shari & Oral; as well as by the Sankey & Shack family: her in-laws Ann & Carl; John; Mark, Liz, Carson and Charlie; MaryAnn, Avi, Nathan & Maya. She will also be missed by her aunts, uncles, relatives & many friends. The lessons we learned from her and the endless compassion she graciously gave will live on for an eternity. We love you, Nikki!! A Memorial Service was held on June 23rd at 11:00am at the Comox Valley Funeral Home, Cremation and Reception Centre, 1101 Ryan Road. Esther ‘Essie’ Mayoff (nee Zipman) (Sch/Ush).  On Saturday, December 4, 2010. Beloved wife of Sol for sixty-nine years. Devoted mother and mother-in-law of Allan and Johanna. Cherished grandmother of Johanna and Adrian. Great-grandmother of Dallas, Chelsea and Garrett. Dear sister of Lillian Zipman and Moe Zipman. Essie will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Gerry Isaacs on Monday, July 26, 2010 in Coral Springs, Florida at the age of 63.  Beloved husband of Elaine (Mayoff) Isaacs (Abr).  Survived by his wife Elaine and sons and daughters-in-law Aaron & Ronite Isaacs and Brad & Jordana Isaacs.  Also survived by sister Darlene Isaacs and sister and brother-in-law Sandra and Jay Miller.  Cherished son-in-law of the late Meyer and Ada Mayoff and brother-in-law of Bernie and Denise Mayoff.  Gerry was a pharmacist and a daily “minyonire” at his shul and a frequent Torah reader.

Zelda Mayoff (nee Schwartz) (Abr) On Sunday, July 11, 2010. Beloved wife of Sol for sixty-seven years. Most loving mother and mother-in-law of Donna (Roman), Robert and the late Wendy, Doug and Cynthia, Richard, and Bonnie. Cherished Grandma of Ricky and Evelyn; David; Chelsea, Dylan, and Harley; Ashley; Cory, Daryl, and Oliver; and the late Lori. Proud great-grandmother of Emily, Olivia, Andrew, Montana, Stone and Jade. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Sidney Schwartz (Marilyn), the late Phyllis and the late Lionel Goldsmith, Doris and Hy Zilbert, the late Fritz and the late Mack Perel. Zelda was a special aunt to her many nieces and nephews, and a true friend to many. She will be so very sadly missed. Many thanks to her dedicated caregivers, Kerry, Gigi, Zinny, Julius and Nina. Freda [Fritzie] Perel (nee Mayoff) (Abr)

Freda [Fritzie] Perel (nee Mayoff) (Abr). Ending her ninety-fourth year, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2009.  Beloved wife of, and shown with, the late Mack Perel.  She will be sadly missed by her daughters and son-in-law Doreen Kipnis [Neil] and Cheryl Nash.  Proud grandmother of Terri [Andrew], Jill, Shari [Oral] and Monica [Greg]. Cherished bubbie of Shawn, Adam, Sophie, Chiara and Sage.  Dearest sister of Sol [Zelda] and Doris, sister-in-law of Sarah and Rae [Jack].  She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. Heartfelt thanks to 5th floor staff of the Jewish Eldercare Centre for their compassionate care.  Donations may be made in her memory to Sun Youth.  A private service was held.

Sydney Solomons (Soc)

Sydney Solomons – (Soc) Sadly on Thursday, October 15, 2009, a month before his 90th birthday.  Beloved husband of Beatrice.  Loving father of Stephen Solomons and Gerry Troy, and Cheryl and Leonard Cappe.  Adored zaida of Jeffrey Cappe and Tiana Roebuck, Sonia and Ben Leith, and Mitchell Cappe. Syd was a proud R.A.F.  World War II veteran, honourable fifty year member of the Masonic Temple and Shriners, lover of music, nature, crosswords, and cryptograms. Syd was wise beyond words with an inquisitive mind and his beautiful smile. His cleverness, wit, and love for his family was inspirational. Service on Sunday, October 18th at 2:30 p.m. at Beth Tzedec Congregation, 1700 Bathurst St., with interment at Beth Tzedec Memorial Park.
