Irving Kogan (Bun)

Irving Kogan, husband of Esther Levitt Kogan (Bunya) died on April 3, 2018. Shiva was at the home of Leah Levitt Bergen (Bunya).  Esther and Leah’s mother was Sonia Gindin, daughter of Bunya, née Mayoff, Gindin.

Irving Kogan, 96, of South Palm Beach, FL and formerly of Skokie, IL passed away on April 3, 2018.  He is pre-deceased by his father, Benjamin and his mother, Dora of Chicago, IL.  He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Esther Kogan, and two sons, Dr. Barry (Cheryl) of Albany NY and Mark (Patti), of Orinda CA, four grandchildren, Rebecca (Robert) Tupuritis of Chicago IL, Sarah (Michael) Benedetti of Wakefield MA, Rachel Kogan of New Haven, CT and Jacob Kogan of Berkeley, CA.  He is also survived by five great grandchildren, Dean and Beau Benedetti of Wakefield MA and Emina, Oliver and Nathan Tupuritis of Chicago, IL.  He is survived by his brother Sheldon (Ellen) of Delray Beach, FL. and predeceased by his brother Sydney and sister Edith.  He is also survived by his sister-in-law Leah (the late Richard) Bergen of South Palm Beach, FL.  Irv was born in Chicago and spent 5 years of military service as a Staff Sargent in the Air Force in the Pacific Theatre in World War II and in the occupation of Japan.  Later, he developed I. Kogan Construction Company, an important construction and land development company on the North Shore of Chicago.  Partnering with his wife Esther, they created developments in Glenview, Highland Park, Deerfield, Wilmette, Skokie and Arlington Heights. Irving and Esther were long-time members of Niles Township Jewish Congregation, in Skokie, IL.  Contributions in his memory can be made to ORT America, Chicago Region, 3701 Commercial Avenue, Suite 13, Northbrook, IL 60062 or the charity of your choice.

Sol Mayoff (Sch) March 13, 1918 – April 25, 2015.  Husband of the late Esther (Essie) Zipman.  Father and father-in-law of Allan and Johanna.  Grandfather of Johanna and Adrian. Great-grandfather of Dallas, Chelsea and Garrett.  Brother and brother-in-law of Moe and the late Sarah Mayoff, the late Anne and the late Abe Morantz.  Brother-in-law of Lillian Zipman and Moe Zipman.  He will be greatly missed by his nieces, nephews, family and friends.  Funeral service was April 30 at the B’nai Brith Section, Kehal Israel Cemetery, D.D.O., Montreal.

Moe Mayoff (Ush/Sch) Feb 4, 1921 – Dec 8, 2014.  Peacefully passed on Monday, Dec 8th, 2014.  Beloved husband of the late Sarah Mayoff(Isray.Israelovitch), for sixty years.  Devoted father, father-in-law and grandfather of Nancy Mayoff, Joanne Mayoff, James Ondrick, Amanda Ondrick and Jonathan Rohan LeBlanc.  Dear brother and brother-in-law of Sol Mayoff, the late Essie Mayoff, the late Anne Morantz and the late Abe Morantz, Bessie Greenblatt and the late Joe Greenblatt, Myrna Aikman and the late Bram Aikman, the late Anne Gould and the late Mark Gould, the late Louis Israelovitch and the late Kay Israelovitch.  Sadly mourned by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Sol Mayoff (Abr) Peacefully, at home, in his ninety-fifth year, on Sunday, November 9, 2014. Beloved husband of the late Zelda. Most loving father and father-in-law of Donna (Roman), Robert and the late Wendy, Doug and Cynthia, Richard, and Bonnie. Cherished grandfather of Ricky, David; Chelsea, Dylan, and Harley; Ashley; Cory, Daryl, and Oliver; and the late Lori. Proud great-grandfather of Emily, Olivia, Andrew, Montana, Stone and Jade. Predeceased by his siblings Molly, Fritzie, Doris, Meyer, Moe, and Sam; brother-in-law of Sidney Schwartz (Marilyn). Sol will be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Rubin Becker, and Dr. John Backler, and to his devoted caregivers Kerry, Ninfa, Zinny, Franklin, and Julius. Funeral service was on Tuesday, November 11 at 11:00 a.m. Burial at the Chevra Kadisha B’nai Jacob Congregation Section, Kehal Israel Cemetery.  Donations in his memory may be made to the Lori Black Community Centre, c/o the Miriam Home Foundation, (514) 345-1300.

Melodie Gula (Abr)

­ Passed away suddenly but peacefully on July 3, 2013 at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. Beloved wife of Dan (abr), Daughter to Phyllis and Al Bott, Daughter-in-Law to Barbara Berman (abr), Sister-in-Law to Barry Gula (abr) and Noel Houtteman, Brother to Ron Boose and Greg Jakma, Aunt to the greatest nieces and nephews in the world and missed by all others who knew her. Her rough exterior was her shield hiding the warm, caring person her true friends and family knew. Her last act of unselfishness was to give life through organ donation to a young man who had little time to left to live. As per her request there was no service but donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Trillium Gift of Life Network, and/or the Canadian Cancer Society. She will be truly missed.

Jack Bottler (Soc) – Passed away peacefully on December 3, 2011 in St. Thomas, Ontario. Beloved husband of Helen. Loving brother to Beatrice (late Syd) Solomons and to his late siblings Bessie Bottler, Sarah (Abe) Bronstein and Saul (Sarah) Bottler. Dutiful son of the late Martin and Sonia Bottler. Jack was loved and adored by his many nieces and nephews. He was quiet, hard-working, kind and a generous supporter of the greater communities of St. Thomas and Toronto. He will be missed very much. Graveside service was held on Monday, December 5th in St. Thomas. Shiva was observed in Toronto. Donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Walter Berman (Abr)- Walter passed away peacefully on Friday, November 18, 2011 at the age of 84. Beloved husband of Barbara Mayoff Berman, loving stepfather of Dan and Melodie Gula, Barry Gula and Noel Houtteman and cherished uncle to his many nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral took place at Bathurst Lawn Cemetery, Court Topaz section, on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Shiva was held in Toronto. Donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Monica [Nikki] Sankey (nee Nash) (Abr)

Monica [Nikki] Sankey (nee Nash) (Abr) – It is with great sadness to announce that our sweet Nikki Sankey, passed away Monday, June 20, 2011 in Comox, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, after a courageous battle with cancer.  She was just 41 years old. She was the beloved soul mate of her husband Greg and loving mother of her dear daughters Chiara and Sage, and she will be greatly missed by them. She will be dearly missed by the Nash family: her mother Cheryl; her father and his wife Allan and Caryn; and her sister & brother-in-law Shari & Oral; as well as by the Sankey & Shack family: her in-laws Ann & Carl; John; Mark, Liz, Carson and Charlie; MaryAnn, Avi, Nathan & Maya. She will also be missed by her aunts, uncles, relatives & many friends. The lessons we learned from her and the endless compassion she graciously gave will live on for an eternity. We love you, Nikki!! A Memorial Service was held on June 23rd at 11:00am at the Comox Valley Funeral Home, Cremation and Reception Centre, 1101 Ryan Road. Gerry Isaacs (Abr)

Gerry Isaacs on Monday, July 26, 2010 in Coral Springs, Florida at the age of 63.  Beloved husband of Elaine (Mayoff) Isaacs (Abr).  Survived by his wife Elaine and sons and daughters-in-law Aaron & Ronite Isaacs and Brad & Jordana Isaacs.  Also survived by sister Darlene Isaacs and sister and brother-in-law Sandra and Jay Miller.  Cherished son-in-law of the late Meyer and Ada Mayoff and brother-in-law of Bernie and Denise Mayoff.  Gerry was a pharmacist and a daily “minyonire” at his shul and a frequent Torah reader.
